New Maps
Sorry I missed the latest new map via MSN yesterday. I don't know what happened, I whent to accept it and all was gone.
I am not use to keeping an eye out for messages, but will try to do better.
I have a suggestion concerning map naming. It would be great whenever possible if the name of a particular map reflected something special about that map. You know, like the way we name places by landmarks (old farm, twin trees, two temples, little lake) . Even if there is nothing trully distinguishing, distinguishing name can be cooked up like "horselands" (talken of course) or "wilderness".

Re: New Maps
For the time being, as they are being completed, we are passing on maps via MSN.
We lost a lot of 'valuable playing time' last weekend trying to get one map to players. We thought it better to arrange to get maps out on msn as/when we see members 'logged on'.
I think the reason you 'missed' it was because, if a file isn't Accepted within a timescale on msn it shows as a timed out. Or maybe because I had logged off before you returned to accept it.
If members watch this topic, information will be posted here when another map is available.
Current maps completed are....mongolwars01....mongolwars02

^HUN^ should give a reply to this as he is the map-man.^Kazemoto^ wrote:I have a suggestion concerning map naming. Re: New Maps
Well I just carried on in the same vain as I had before, in order to save the host trawling to find a map. I'll consider this request when naming the rest. Will MongolWars 03 wooded, MongolWars 04 coastal, etc be ok? Or I could simply erect the Nomad tents around the map name.....^Beach Assault^ etc, maybe that would be better?

Re: New Maps
“MongolWars 03 wooded” would be better than “MongolWars 03”. But really what I was reaching for was the spirit of the particular map.
Let me see if I can give you an example…
Well I kind of got carried away, and looking at the seven converted Mizulands maps, I came up with the following “impressions”. And I am not saying that these names should be changed, these are just examples based on the first view from the attackers center position.
#1 = Temple Hill
#10 = Old Farm
#11 = Hollowed Ground
# 13 = The Clearing
#15 = Hero’s Mounds
#17 = Lookout Mountain
#18 = either Little Hill or The Circle
I liked the ^nomad^ idea at first, but thought that it kind of encroached on our names. How about Huns_Temple Hill (for example)
MongolWars_Old Farm would work well too
Are these new maps to go in the Battle/Maps or SaveMaps folder?

Re: New Maps
As I understand it, when the maps are made and installed, that is how they have to remain (cannot change title)
Personally I prefer the map to be named as they are, similar to the O_ mizuland maps. That way, because they are so few, they are easy to find (for hosting) and ALL players meet the same conditions (i.e..until you play the map a few times there is the 'unknown' element)
Put the maps in the Battle>Maps folder.

Re: New Maps
I was hoping that we might increase our numbers.
There are many things that can contribute to this, mostly things that make a game easy to learn and friendly to play. Map naming is only a small part of this concept, but it wouldn’t hurt
P.S. It is very easy to change names...

Re: New Maps
I've decided on the method I will use when creating the maps. Each map will be preceded by ^^ The added bonus being they head the list this way.
I've tried to reproduce my last effort, this time I left out the ships and it worked. I don't think it's as good as the last but there you go. So it is named ^^Coastal Assault.

Re: New Maps
you could not reload the crashing map into the map editor?
did you try loading it into the shogun map editor??
then saving it as it appears there (dont change anything-STW will delete models it does not understand),
then reload back into MTW map editor. (you'll have some retiling and remodelling todo, but the base map should be fine)

Re: New Maps
I have tried loading it into stw map editor. The load bar moves about 1/4 of the way across and then 'freezes'.barocca wrote:you could not reload the crashing map into the map editor?

But it doesn't CTD.
The is no map editor in the old stw.
Re: New Maps
maps? more? where?
and there IS a map editor in STW, but you needed a command line switch to turn it on
(cant recall what it was...)
was it IN Warlords???
(YES - under options)

I have STW/WE edition, will take a look.was it IN Warlords???
(YES - under options)
Re: New Maps
There was an editor in both. If anything, the MTW editor is a bit buggier. I'll try to get another completed before we meet up.

Re: New Maps

i FOUND monks maps, compared to MTW maps they are tiiiiiny...
i forgot how MUCH they reduced unit scale in STW to make maps look and feel bigger,
(fatigue was not an issue in stw IIRC)
anyways,
will try to "repair" monks' maps and try to "expand" them into mtw maps...
new maps??? gimme gimme

Yes I did but it 'freezes' when load bar gets to about 25% across. Have re-tried a number of times but with the same result.
New map ^^Desolate added to the ^^Maps Sticky for downloading.
