Here is a link to Lobby Topic on .org

http://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=114166

It explains a workaround for the MP lack of a good, working Lobby.

There is no List of players...no Lobby chat and no private chat in the actual lobby, just a list of games that are available to join.
You will need to create a list of friends and join a group chat to get the other windows that are shown. These windows can be toggled on/off by pressing shift/tab together.
It does work. Wink

My post above is a work-around for holding chats. Marcus and I used it Saturday evening, it's like using MSN.

But we are still unable to get to the same game.
It has got to be something to do with which server you are on.

Each time tonight I tried to join Marcus I kept getting...server is not responding...or words to that effect. I don't even know if Marcus was aware that I was trying to join him in a game.

Sorry, I do not fancy clicking Quick Battle and having a player at random popping up to play. I want games with people and friends that I know. 2 v 2 and 4 v 4 games for example where we can team up to play against other players.

Some people 'sing the praises' of Steam. Personnaly myself, I would rather put up with the hassle of Gamespy. At least you could see the names of the players online and could arrange a game with them in the Lobby.

As I find it....you now need to tab back to see who of your friends are online, open a chat window, arrange to set your settings to the same server, then go back to the Battle List to set up or join a game.

Hosts can send a message to friends they want to ask to join by clicking on an envelope in the corner of the host screen.

I assume that you will be on the UK server, and if I see you online, I will move there (UK server), and send you a join message.

It works Very Happy

Thanks for the 'heads up' ^Kazemoto^

I have not got as far as trying to Host a game so was not aware that that option (Hosts can send a message to friends they want to ask to join by clicking on an envelope in the corner of the host screen.) was available.

So you have to invite friends to play? How about players who are not on your friends list?
They should be able to just join your game if they know where it is
This seems to be the problem, finding where the game is hosted and where the players are.

This is all new so a little confusing. Rolling Eyes

I will try to be online later this evening (22.00GMT) and yes I am on the United Kingdom server.

I've yet to hear anything that sounds remotely helpful. A dedicated multiplayer lobby is so much easier, I can't see how this is helping.
Best of luck to you.

Tried MP tonight. Very Happy

Router ports set, Marcus opened up a chat window, I hosted a game (passworded) so that we could test it.
Marcus joined (I like the battle setup window showing the players and the faction they have chosen) the unit selection layout (is very pleasing) and the button to start the game (shows when players are ready)

The games ran very smoothly just a case of remembering the different commands for the units. Very similar to M2TW in some respects. A whole lot of new units to learn about again but that will come plus a few new clickable commands.

Gameplay, I need some practice though (veeery rusty).
