Fall of the Samurai Clan specialization
I have noticed that we can have a clan specialization for Fall of the Samurai in multilayer I think the options are Imperial or Shogun which unlock upgrades for vet units when they get high enough level.
It seems that as of yet we have not set one for the ^Nomad Alliance^ anyone have input for which we should take.
Currently I am finding Imperial units quite cost effective but I am yet to unlock many Shogun units so I do not really know what there units are like.

Re: Fall of the Samurai Clan specialization
Just of my own sanity I am writing this out, hoping to give some or get some ideas on how this all works.
Samurai 2: Four choices with separate specializations (cav, bow, yari, sword) and maybe most important four different starting places on the personal game map. I say most important because the map bonuses were slim and almost never used to my knowledge. Even though they provided 5 extra points if you uses the game clan retainer on the contest map with its transparent positioning from the personal game map. The only upgrade bonus situations I ever heard anyone raving about were bow and cavalry (for range and speed respectively), and all that kind of melted away when they added 20 more levels to the avatar ranking.
Rise of the Samurai: To my knowledge (which means absolutely nothing) this addition had no changes for the avatar map games, only adding clans to the game.
Fall of the Samurai: Literally a new game that allowed access to players of the first game, so that there would be plenty of players on the contest map. New with this was the choice of two Samurai and two Imperial starting positions on the contest maps. Again these locations were really only important to game-clan members as placing them in the same quadrant without having to complete the whole personal map to be able to work together on the same province targets. I do not think (again which means absolutely nothing) there were any further relationships to retainers or upgrade bonuses. This seems true as you can switch avatars and not affect the rest of your game.
So not sure (as you can tell) but because you can elect to have only opponents from one or the other, Imperial or Samurai, or mixed, that there are no other differences except the avatar you are using, and the starting position you elected at the beginning, which if you have fully navigated the personal map makes no difference at all.
Wow, I said all that
Final thought on which to choose; my opinion is never bring a bow to a gun fight!

Re: Fall of the Samurai Clan specialization
Having had very little play time, due to pc problems, I am not certain which would be of advantage to us. Imperial or Shogunte.
As I understand it, once you select one or the other you are not able to change it afterwards.
There again as Tomisama has pointed out we do have the option of creating two separate Avatars for Shogun 2 and Fall of the Samurai. Four in total.
So we need to decide amongst us which one we want to select. I don't think we can select these as individuals.
You know, for example Tomisama and Tsavong select Imperial, Marcus and Jochi Khan select Shogun. Must get more, better information on this.
What if we each post which one we would prefer and see what totals we have?
Edit:
Just checked and the Clan Speciality when selected, is set for the whole Clan. Each Clan Member has the same.
I also think that it is the Clan Leader who sets it the same as when the clan was set as Cavalry.

Re: Fall of the Samurai Clan specialization
The thing is I think that the cavalry setting is just legacy selection from the first game. It is still there but has no effect, as in FotS there is no such distinction.
Confusing isn't it

Re: Fall of the Samurai Clan specialization
Yes for Shogun 2 we have a cavalry clan that unlocks some unit upgrades for cav units for shogun 2 avatars. We can also set a specialization for Fall of the Samurai either Imperial or Shogun matching the two main modern unit trees you can unlock.
So far I have unlocked imperial units and some shogun units and for example an upgrade increased range which boosts your lines range to 150 which for imperial or Shogun line units you need to get them to level 9 and be in a clan with the specialization that matches the unit type.

Re: Fall of the Samurai Clan specialization
After reading your posts and see that you both feel the same way I have now set the Clan Speciality to Imperial for the Clan battles.
