I have recently noticed some rules being suggested or applied to MP games. Some are saying 'no HA', 'limited cav and/or HA', 'no cantabrian circle', 'no artillery', 'no berserkers'. I want no part of this and I know we host 'no rules' battles, but if this becomes the general mood in MP lobby, the game is finished. I find it strange that much of this comes from CoH players. Surely honourable play with non spam armies needs no rules.

I totally agree with you, Hun.
I played a few battles with old clan mates from MTW. Just a couple.
The rules were:
no art
no berserkers
no cantabrian.
Its a pity. The game is spoiled by those old pav shootout phase then melee with inf ... etc. All the same. All equal.
Cantabrian, art, berserker even if they are good tools and powerful do not assure you victory.
Cantabrian can win shoot out, but ha are costly, and almost unuseful during last phase in melee.
Art is expensive and you got less units if rushed.
Berserker are strong, but weak against shots and not controllable. You have to use them with know how if you want them to be deadly.
So imo applying those limiting rules only limit the tactic possibility and spoils game variety.
Really for me it is unbelievable that men fix rules only to be sure to have all the old same game and style of fighting.
Lets try the new. I say.
Marcus

Yes Marcus, to go back to the boring, all same MTW battles would be such a forward step and improvement
BI, has introduced new tactics and a choice of factions that are far more interesting than any before and then people want to exclude unique abilities. It's a joke, why would anyone spend 600+ denarii on a HA unit only to use it as an archer unit? As you say, HA will not win you the battle and neither will artillery. I think I would be inclined to leave rather than have these silly rules imposed.

I have to agree.
It is nonsense to start implementing *Rules* to an already agreeable game.
Is it the fact that these 'players' cannot accept the idea that there are players that are new to the game that can win when playing against them?
Every game I host I shall insist that there are no *Rules* other than the Denarii level of 12.5k which in itself makes for a fairly balanced choice of army.
Helps to reduce the spam or elite type of army.
In the same way, I shall not play in any game that imposes rules.

No art, no CC and no berserkers...out of interest, who was it that hosted these rules? So far all I see is rumours but it looks like they are being applied.

I have noticed lately that a lot of Plumbatarii based Roman armies are appearing. It seems that people have become wise to the 14 armour piercing darts that this infantry unit posses. Strangely, this is not frowned upon the way HA and Cantabrian Circle are. Personally, I find 14 darts per man to be way over the top and feel the over use of these armies could well be a game crippler. I certainly do not wish to see the MTW type exploits re-occur.
