Re: Mongol The Movie
I've been waiting for this to arrive at cinemas here but nothing to date, maybe I'll manage to get it on DVD.

Re: Mongol The Movie
It might come in very handy to link the movie and the mod.
ETW is scheduled for "Fall", which to me is September also.
We'll see what happens

I've seen a release date of 3-Feb-2009 for Empire: Total War
That would be wonderful
Now the really big question.
Is anyone "else" here considering the possibility of an individual mod called
Mongol Warlords
Including new splash, music, menu backgrounds, etc.?
I feel it in me bones!
Samurai Warlords is a name "I" gave to this thing (it was adopted over the previous Samurai Wars), so I felt that I could posibly make another suggestion

Re: Mongol The Movie
I was under the impression that Samurai Warlords was the name of the online campaign. I don't know about renaming it completely, it may be a good idea or maybe not. I think that's Barocca's call.
I do like the idea of a new splash screen and music and the Mongol music of MI would add a great atmosphere.
I had MI Mongol music on my old VI install (when VI was the game) I believe all I did was delete the orthodox wavs and replace them with MI Mongol.
Any opinions on this? Barocca? Glyndwr? Marcus? If we are going to do this it should be decided now.

Re: Mongol The Movie
I guess what happened is R’as was looking to redo the front end, and ask me if I had any ideas, and I sent him some stuff I had created. He didn’t really like any of it, but did like my signature (Samurai Warlords), and ask if he could use it for a splash. The name on the forum followed, etc. etc..
Some folks still call it Samurai Wars, so maybe the change was only superficial, but it did help to get peoples attention at the time, and really that is what I am thinking could happen again here. I mean we aren’t following any exact format from either STW or ME/MI in structure or naming. If it would help to promote the mod and get more people interested, why not?
On the advanced view of what might be possible here, with the Mongol Empire (the greatest ever known to this day) as the center of the game, there’s a huge variety enemy factions available (least of all Japan). In fact in considering this, it is a wonder that they made the first game about Japan at all. But then again it was spawned by the movie RAN. Well now we have another movie now to spawn another game, MONGOL. You think?

Re: Mongol The Movie
I agree ^Kazemoto^, I was expecting somewhere along the line, to see a TW game centred around the Mongol empire, unfortunately all we ever saw was a diluted appearance.

Re: Mongol The Movie
Bearing in mind that this is still a Samurai game with the option of using the mongol faction that has been added as an add-on.
Original name was Samurai Wars. As ^HUN^ posted, the Samurai Warlords name was used for the campaign that ^Kazemoto^ organised. I could see the reason for it as each winner was named a 'Warlord' or whatever.
Renaming it Mongol Warlords will give the impression that it is a Mongol game. To me it would sound misleading.
For my part, I would be inclined/prefer to keep to the samurai name, music, splash screen and the japanese sounds.
If barocca wants to call it something different I would go along with that.
You asked for my opinion.

Re: Mongol The Movie
How about a migration?
Keep Samurai Whatever 9 as a finished project.
Create Mongol Whatever, as a seperate mod, and work on that going in a diffrent direction?
The Samurai people are not going to be happy no matter what.
They considered version 5 the end of the road, and really they still have that, no matter what anyway.

Well I always thought they wanted to get beta8 working. They now have what they wanted but choose to sulk rather than play either, so what more can you do? They have obviously taken a group decision and refuse to help in any way, so I have no problem with whatever is decided.

Re: Mongol The Movie
New direction....We have the ability to create this...
Mongol v Yuan
Samurai v Mongol
Mongol v Korea
Samurai v Korea
Mongol v Song
I'd prefer to work on Asia, Medieval Europe is old hat now. Maybe at some point we can introduce Khwarazm.

Re: Mongol The Movie
ASIAN WARS
Mongol Warlords could still stick to eastern realms, no problem.
One important part of the Mongol title was to seperate it from Samurai, and all the stuff connected (baggage).
Thinking that Samurai Wars(lords) could be finished with version 8 (SP and Multi with no Mongols).
And Mongol Warlords could start with a version 1 (multi only and all new maps), with 8 factions of each group to help create all posibilitys.
Remember the movie will be the springboard, just as the movie was for the Alexander expansion for RTW.
Whatever you want to do is fine, but I see a "Golden" opportunity to capitalize here (pun intended ).

Re: Mongol The Movie
I would tend to agree, all the troll posts in inappropriate places did little to endear this mod to anyone, quite the opposite in fact.^Kazemoto^ wrote:One important part of the Mongol title was to seperate it from Samurai, and all the stuff connected (baggage).
This may be the best way to attract new players. A fresh start.Thinking that Samurai Wars(lords) could be finished with version 8 (SP and Multi with no Mongols).
Yes, it's an idea but the mappack will take a while to create. And Mongol Warlords could start with a version 1 (multi only and all new maps), with 8 factions of each group to help create all posibilitys.

And may be a way to get around community division also. This may be the best way to attract new players. A fresh start.
Saves face for us, leaving the best finished product of SW for whomever to play (not soiling it with Mongols).
And saves face for them, as they could then come and play MW, without being a traitor and encouraging the rebellion, as SW is available at it’s peek of development.
Choices for everyone, without implied loyalty (kind of deep but true).
What I worry about now is that this was not anyone’s goal, that is to separate camps. B was looking to complete his vision, finishing the mod as he saw it originally. Now the above suggestion incorporates unplanned directions and more work. It may not be in the scope of his interest. And I could understand that, and that’s ok. These are just suggestions

Re: Mongol The Movie
Well, enjoy the movie as a movie, apart from that it is quite a disappointment. As usual there is no emphasis on the bow. The facts have been rearranged, and considering the limited period covered, far more have been ignored. The film ends in 1206, the date Temujin became Chinggis Khan after uniting the Mongol tribes. With a decent narrative the story as laid out in 'The Secret History of the Mongols' could have been told (it is far more interesting) instead we have some confusing story that doesn't really explain a lot. It seems to be building to some big finale but ends instead as an anti climax.
